Rub a dub dub

Tick tock, I can hear the clock! And before I know it, it will be TURKEY TIME! And my kichen is still in a huge disarray! I am at the point of asking the guests to pick up a brush between dinner and waiting for the coffee for dessert. Think that would go over well? Probably not.

BUT it is slowly, ever so, coming together. Some new wall decor arrived. The roosters are up. Just waiting on the chair rail wallpaper and trying to decided STILL on what we are doing in the family room. Todd began with trying out the kitchen color. But he didn't like it. So off he sent me to Home Depo for another choice. I am not sure what he wanted. He should have been the one to pick it since he was the one that didn't like the current color but instead I headed there to try and find something I think he may....or may not....like instead of the gold. I found a light yellow that would work. And a lighter shade of the current gold. Todd picked the lighter gold. We shall see. It is only paint, right? But when you have painted 1/2 a room already, it kinda gets old having to do it again. And again. And maybe again. I am determined to have it done by Thur. We shall see.

And I spent my day making my kids work. Being a WAHM I usually take the weight of most of the housework. But today was the big clean to get ready for a houseful of guests. And in the air, along with the mist of multi purpose cleaner, you could hear the twinkling voices of my children as they whined and complained about having to do housework! But they did it. And it is almost done. I haven't told them yet that we have to do the downstairs tomorrow! I am sure they will love me! But I am sure they will sleep better for their hard done accomplishments! (LOL!)

Cock-a-doodle....hummmmm?

Ok.....still going and trying to push to get it done.

We got it painted some. Got the border up which arrived yesterday. Now just waiting on the chair rail wall paper, stencils and decor........

THAT is the reason for the baby poop yellow! I am not mad!!
Incomplete but on its way........

Now the BIG question..........WHAT do I do in the family room? My intention was to take the color on over (dining room, family room and kitchen are all one room) . But Todd isn't sure he will like it in there. He is thinking a lighter shade of the yellow/gold. So currently the yellow and roosters have stopped 1/2 way till we decide. How do we tie it into the family room???? Hummmmmmmmm......

How to make a dinner conversation piece!

Just tear your kitchen and dining room apart before Thanksgiving when a houseful of guests will be arriving! Surely the 1/2 painted walls and spackling will have them asking "WHAT were you thinking!?"

Yep. That is what we did. Cause I didn't want my guests to have those odd moments of quiet when no one could think of anything to say!!!! Yeah. That is the reason! Or.........I am just crazy!

My kitchen and dining room/family room area was put on hold when we moved Grams. But it was in bad need of repainting. As I sat in there one day I asked Todd if he thought we could finish the areas before Thanksgiving. You know....in between dr appointments, swim classes, work, etc. "SURE!", he said. But keep in mind, Todd is not a handyman. So I knowingly took my risk when I started pulling the wallpaper off the walls!

I was, at the time, very optimistic. After all, we had almost 4 weeks to do it when we began talking about it! So I peeled wallpaper. Took things off the walls and got ready for the work that would happen the next day. I went to the store and ordered wallpaper....which they said would be in at the latest the weekend before Thanksgiving. No problem, I thought. I will just get everything I need, paint and wait. Then when it arrived we just had to slap it on the walls and pull the turkey out of the oven. Done.

Well....like usual, not much runs smoothly in my house. We lost a week from the flu. Then the day Todd was to get the paint, my van broke down. So we were down to one car. And instead of getting the paint, Todd was now sitting in the dealership waiting for the bad news! The walls did not begin the paint prep till the next day. The only thing that got done, because we had church in the morning, was the ceiling and the trim!!!

Then I got the dreaded call yesterday! My wallpaper was on BACK ORDER! It would not be arriving for another 4 weeks!!!! That means it will be here the 1st week of DECEMBER!!!! After Thanksgiving. Lovely!

So here I sit, with spackling on my empty walls, 1/2 torn off wallpaper on the chair rail, and a 1/2 painted ceiling cause Todd ran out of time painting that after church!! My goal is to at least get the walls painted! Course, I am sure my mother in law will be wondering WHY I would pick a baby poop mustard color for my kitchen cause I have NOTHING to tie it all together. You know...that wallpaper I so need that has the yellow in it!!!!!! So I expect that, was we sit in the baby poop yellow kitchen with the green counter tops and 1/2 paste covered chair rails and unfinished ceiling...we will have plenty to talk about over turkey and stuffing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BEFORE (well sort of. Some of the paper is already torn down. And the backsplash is started. But it is still the beginning........)

Wallpaper torn down and backslash started....

Ceiling started. Say goodbye to the stencil!

Chair rail torn down....painting soon to begin!

Pictures....Pictures....Get your pictures here!

Ok. I am really backed up on shot posts. But I know there are some waiting for Halloween. So I am going to post pictures backwards and start with the most recent so I don't get into trouble! So here is the candy corn witch and her sick mermaid sister...........

Cough cough..... Or should that be Oink Oink?

I survived the oink flu!
I think I should be wearing one of those tee shirts like you get when you ride some wild rollercoaster. Just to announce that I was brave enough to come off that ride without puking everywhere!

I took on the monster and survived. In fact, my whole family and community is on this ride too it seems. Cause it is going through like wildfire. Friends, neighbors, kids, etc are coming down with it. So I wasn't alone. Delaney was the last victim along with my husband (which serves him right for asking about dinner on Monday...thank you!) Delaney came down with it Friday. The day before trick or treat. So we pumped her with meds and made her rest with a promise that if she did so and her fever was low enough, we would still take her out for a bit. And she did. And we did. She wasn't 100% but she had fun and that is all that mattered.

This week I get to make up for all the things that didn't get done last week. Laundry. House. Daycare. Kids activities. Uploading backed up pictures.......... Etc etc etc. No rest for momma!
